Carnival of Souls is a film that I have seen countless clips of and has appeared on many DVD bundles over the years (the film is in public domain in the US). I have heard a lot about this film but its appearance on dollar store DVD racks made me think that it wasn’t worth my time. Boy was I wrong.
The movie deals with a young woman looking to start over in a new city after a car crash. She meets some interesting people along the way, but it seems she’s being followed by a mysterious man. She also has an unexplainable longing for an abandoned amusement park on the lake.
This movie is wonderfully shot and its filming locations tell a story of their own. There are plenty of eerie and chilling moments to accompany the film’s fantastic score. The Criterion Blu-ray looks fantastic and it’s easy to see why this movie is a classic

This anthology has 2 separate movies by horror masters George Romero and Dario Argento. While the movie is a bit uneven I’ve always thought this movie was sufficiently creepy. Fun fact: I was married in the spooky gothic church seen in The Black Cat story.
This movie is so off the wall. Self-aware, endless homages, and crazy cameos, Gremlins 2 is just plain fun. Some have debated as to whether or not this is better than the first one. I still like the original better but this one comes very close.
I’ve been hearing about this movie off and on for a decade or so and finally decided to give it a try. It’s a goofy take on zombies that worked out pretty well in the 1950’s post apocalyptic setting (think Fallout). Definitely entertaining.
